Stay Balanced this Christmas

Updated: Jan 2, 2024

Christmas can be a particularly stressful time of year and family meet-ups can cause all sorts of buttons to be pressed which can place untold stress on our minds and bodies. My top five tips to keep yourself in balance this Christmas are:

Keep it Simple – One of my favourite sayings in life is Less is More. Avoid over indulging in food, over spending on gifts and spreading yourself too thin by trying to be all things to everybody. You can’t and will never be able to please everybody. Know your trigger points and set your boundaries. Communicate your expectations clearly and realistically with both friends and family and remember be kind and communicate from the heart, you never know the impact of your words or actions.

Stay Hydrated – Start each day with a glass of plain mineral water before ingesting anything else. This will help to hydrate the body and enable it to function more effectively throughout the day. Accompany each coffee or tea with a glass of water as well as having one in between alcoholic drinks. Your head and body will thank you.

Limit your sugar intake – you don’t have to eat all the chocolates in the house. Pace yourself and rather than reaching mindlessly for another one, pause and ask yourself do I really want this. Do this each time your reach for a sweet or piece of chocolate you are taking back your power and that alone be a wonderful feeling.

Smile – Smiling activates a positive hormonal biochemical reaction in the body of both the giver and the receiver. Try it throughout the day and notice how you feel when you smile and when you are smiled at. You might even find yourself with less to complain about!

Fresh Air – Get out for a walk, even if it is just a ten-minute walk around the block. A change of scenery and some slow breaths as you walk can do wonders for stress levels and also help you to decompress if tensions are running high indoors.

And my bonus tip:

All of my clients know that I have a love of Bach Flower Remedies. I use them in most sessions particularly when I am working with people’s emotions.  My number one Bach Flower recommendation at Christmas is Rescue Remedy or Five Flowers as it also known.

A good all-rounder for the festive season. It contains the following five different flowers all of which when combined can help to ease emotional distress.

Cherry Plum: for loss of self-control and hysteria to calmness

Clematis: for faintness to focus

Imaptiens: for undue agitation to patience

Star of Bethlehem: for shock to comfort & consolation

Rock Rose: for terror and panic to peace

Take 3 or 4 drops as required or put 2 drops in your water bottle and sip throughout the day. You can find it  most health stores.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my clients for their custom over the last year. I wish you and your families a very happy and healthy Christmas and I look forward to bringing you into balance and helping you to improve your health and wellbeing in 2024.
